Season’s 52, Bridgewater, NJ – Visited, Friday, 10/11/2019

We celebrated another birthday this past week at Season’s 52 restaurant on the outskirts of the parking lot of Bridgewater Mall in Bridgewater, NJ, across from Bloomingdales. We made our reservation the same day for 7:15 p.m. by using the web service called Open Table. At the time that the reservation was made, we noted in the comments section that we were celebrating a birthday.

We arrived a few minutes early and within about 3 minutes, we were seated in a dining room off the main floor. The restaurant is definitely a happening kind of place, as there were several other customers waiting to be seated. The décor is fresh, understated and elegant. There are no crystal chandeliers or sterling silver flatware, but the room we were in had beautiful carpeting, matching cream-colored drapes and built in bookcases. The bookcases gave the feeling that were in somebody’s private dining room.

As we sat down, the server placed a card on the table with ‘Happy Birthday’ written across the front.

A personal touch that goes a long way.

The birthday boy opened the card and found that several different people had signed their names with some including birthday wishes. Presumably the signors were other staff members. They also included a gift card for a flatbread appetizer on the house. For those who aren’t familiar with Season’s 52, the restaurant changes its menu as the seasons change. Four times a year, the menu reflects seasonal fruits, vegetables and seafood. For example, we sat down to the fall menu which included several dishes that included squash and sweet potatoes. One of the items on the menu was a Prix Fixe which the server pointed out. The Prix Fixe included selecting a soup or salad, an entrée and a dessert from a sub menu, all for under $30. From this menu, one person selected the black bean and bacon soup, a grilled steak and a mini dessert (the kind that is in a large shot glass but that bursts with flavor). The birthday boy ordered the scallops over goat cheese risotto.

I had the bistro steak, which was accompanied by sautéed green beans and roasted potatoes. We all shared the flatbread that came from the birthday card. The flatbread was a crispy bread with mushrooms and cheese. I tried the scallops, which were basted in honey ginger sauce. They were very tasty indeed. I didn’t try the other steak, since I ordered the bistro steak. My meal, however, was nothing to write home about. The steak was a little bit on the chewy side, the potatoes and the gravy that the steak was presented with had no flavor. The guys who I dined with both enjoyed their meals thoroughly. The birthday boy noted that the goat cheese risotto was creamy and had just the right amount of goat cheese. Our other dining companion noted that the steak he had from the Prix Fixe menu was tender and juicy. As an additional side to share, we ordered one serving of mac and cheese. The mac and cheese taste homemade with a hint of sharp cheddar cheese.

Season’s 52 is definitely worth trying. The modern, sophisticated setting and the very attentive waitstaff were worth the mediocre food from one diner and high marks from the other two diners. Season’s 52 is a chain restaurant with other locations in New Jersey. As noted above, we happened to dine at the Bridgewater location.

We Eat A lot cumulative rating: Food 😊😊 😊 Service 😊😊😊😊😊 Overall 😊😊😊😊.
